Jokseenkin huvittavaa informaatiota koskien lääkeainetta nimeltä Pregabaliini (Lyrica) choiceandmedication.org sivustolta, jonka mottona "your wellbeing in mind", nauroin:
"There have been no reports of addiction to pregabalin. Some discontinuation symptoms have been reported e.g. insomnia, nausea, diarrhoea, ‘flu-like symptoms, nervousness, depression, pain, sweating and dizziness (not unlike anxiety returning).
For a drug to be addictive or produce dependence, then it must have a number of characteristics:
-should produce craving for the drug when the last dose "wears off"
-there should be a "reward" (e.g. a good feeling) from taking the drug
-should produce tolerance ie you need more drug to get the same effect
-should produce withdrawal symptoms specific to that drug.
These characteristics come from the World Health Organisation. Pregabalin has none of these and so is not addictive. Any discontinuation effects are probably more of an "adjustment" reaction from sudden removal of a drug rather than "withdrawal".
This does not mean that pregabalin is addictive, just that pregabalin is an effective drug and the brain doesn’t take kindly to it being taken away suddenly. These effects are very unusual and only happen in a very few people."
(Ylläoleva teksti itseasiassa on sivustolla kirjoitettu isommalla fontilla ja paksunnettu, lisäksi käyttäjäkokemuksia lukeneena kohta "very unusual" ei tuntuisi pitävän paikkaansa... noh, perus settiä)
